Gilormu Cassar Room

Girolamo Cassar was a Maltese Architect of Sicilian descent who was, originally, the assistant to Francesco Laparelli, the architect who made the original designs of Valletta and who supervised the construction of the bastions for the first three years. Laparelli himself was an assistant to the great Michelangelo. On Laparelli’s death in 1570, the responsibility towards the completion of the fortifications of Valletta fell on Cassar.  Cassar is attributed to have designed a number of important buildings in Valletta, including the auberges of the Order.
